12-16 September 2017: XXIII Aurora International Trophy Tournament
Prato (Italy) – From the 12th to the 16th of September 2017, within the Insport+ Project, Polisportiva Aurora, in collaboration with the Municipality of Prato and the Tuscany Region, organized the XXIII Aurora International Trophy Tournament. The event was attended by the foreign partner delegations of the Project (Faisem from Spain, Initiative from Germany and Megallo from Hungary) and the local delegations of Vernio, Pontedera and Parma.
The activities scheduled were: a 7v7 soccer tournament, a Volleyball tournament, a series of events around the city, including folk dance performances and martial arts performances by the communities in Prato.
The soccer tournament, after two qualifying rounds, was won by the Municipal Police of Prato. It is important to emphasize the sportiness and fair play of the participating teams. The Municipal Police has offered a local edition of the legendary Julies Rimet Cup, destined to be put on the trophy board by the winning team. The Volleyball tournament was played at the gym of Niccolò Copernico high school (due to bad weather) and it was again won by the Municipal Police of Prato. In both tournaments, the sense of sportsmanship and friendship, favoured the inclusion of disadvantaged people.
The event in the Municipality square of Prato involved the citizens of the town in the show of the asylum seekers community, in the dance performances of the Chinese community in Prato, in exhibitions and folk music.
The program also included a meeting involving the Mayor of Prato, his councillors, the Tuscany Region, the Society of Health (a consortium made up by the Municipalities of the Provinces of Prato and the Local Health Unit Tuscany Centre) represented by the Mayor of the Municipality of Vernio and the European delegations. The meeting wanted to involve the European delegations in what is happening in Prato, and its purpose was to stimulate the political class and the local administrators to adopt a policy more sensitive to mental health issues and more responsive to the needs of persons with mental disorders and their families, with the final aim of promoting the adoption of Territorial Pacts for Mental Health.
Lunches have been organized at the Pizzeria “Fuori di Pizza” run by clients of Polisportiva Aurora. A dinner was offered at the restaurant “Uscio and Bottega” whose owner, Fausto is also a volunteer for Polisportiva Aurora (as Vice President). The Dominican Sisters of Villa Martelli also prepared and offered an Indian dinner at “Fuori di Pizza”.
The final event took place in the splendid setting of Villa San Leonardo al Palco (a former Franciscan monastery) with a dinner offered by the Families of “Diapsigra”, an association working in Prato since 1995 for the rehabilitation of persons suffering from mental health disorders. Afterwards the evening continued with the exchange of gifts and prizes between the respective participants and guests.
Together with the previous editions, also the XXIII Aurora International Tournament has been prominent in the local media (a foreign delegation was already aware of it via internet).
